Signing Ceremony For The Development Of Digital Training And Digital Lab Between Centre Of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) And Huawei Technology (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

On 10 November 2017, a signing ceremony for the Development of Digital Training and Digital Lab between Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak(CENTEXS) and HUAWEI Technology (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. was signed today by The Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, State Secretary of Sarawak and also Chairman of CENTEXS and Mr. Foo Fang Yong, Vice President of HUAWEI Malaysia. The signing ceremony was witnessed by The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak. Also present at the ceremony was Haji Syeed Mohd. Hussien bin Wan Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of CENTEXS and also CENTEXS Board of Directors. The signing marks the official commencement of CENTEXS and HUAWEI for the development of both digital training and digital lab in Sarawak and to prepare the youth for a digital world. The objective of this partnership is to supply talent for digital infrastructure especially for the State digital economy. With this partnership, CENTEXS will be the first HUAWEI’s end to end ICT infrastructure talent development Huawei Authorized Learning Partner in South East Asia, not only for local but also for ASEAN. CENTEXS and HUAWEI work together to promote digital training and establish a digital lab, as part of the efforts to equip the youth of Sarawak with ICT knowledge and experience at a signing ceremony. The signing ceremony was also attended by Edward Zhou Mingcheng, Vice President of Global Public Affairs and James Xu Chengxin, Vice President HUAWEI Global Technical Service Department and also Director of HUAWEI Learning Service Department. In order to train Sarawak’s youth, HUAWEI will implement specialist programs covering wireless, microwave, fiber, data center, telecom energy hardware installation and help to set up a digital lab for high school graduates.  These graduates will also have the opportunity receive mobile application development training, after which they will be certified as Android Application developer. Lastly, HUAWEI plans to introduce the i-Learning cloud platform which promotes digital learning and improving the way students are taught.  In collaboration with CENTEXS, these programmes are aimed to equip high school graduates with ICT knowledge and skills in order for them to contribute to Sarawak’s ICT infrastructure and digital economy. At the signing ceremony, James Xu Chengxin said, “Today’s partnership with CENTEXS marks a step forward in the digital transformation of Sarawak.  At HUAWEI, we’ve always valued the power of education and believe that the digital future belongs to the youth of today. It is important that students are armed with an understanding of the latest ICT industry trends, in order for them to develop competitive skills in their professional career and ultimately contribute to the state’s economic growth.” HUAWEI has recognised CENTEXS as a HUAWEI Authorized Learning Partner and will continue to work closely with CENTEXS to identify future collaborations especially in ICT development and training in the areas of cloud computing, IOT, 5G, big data and others. The State Government, through Yayasan Sarawak, has established the Centre of Technical Excellence or CENTEXS in October 2014 to undertake the call by the Governor of Sarawak YAB Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Bin Haji Satem, former Chief Minister of Sarawak to equip more technical people that the State needs to industrialize the economy. Therefore, CENTEXS was assigned the tasks to train and upskill the young generation to meet the technical needs and requirements of the State industries focus on the trade of Oil and Gas, Construction, Electrical & Port, Textile & Hospitality and ICT and also a career upon completion of their training. From training centre-based to the current technical trades training centre, CENTEXS has trained 1748 youths throughout the State. The unique feature of CENTEXS is that all its programs are developed in close consultation starting from the State government and direct involvement of industry players in assuring the relevancy of training to meet the demands of the industry.  Three (3) more CENTEXS branches will be established in LUNDU, LAWAS and DALAT.  Currently, the LUNDU Campus has started its operation since April 2016 using the temporary facilities while the new campus is being built.
