KUALA LUMPUR: Solarvest Borneo Sdn Bhd has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to launch a green energy lab in Kuching.

Solarvest said the lab was made to train and develop local talents to support growth in the clean energy industry in Sabah and Sarawak.
It will provide green energy-related learning programme involving solar, green mobility, battery storage systems, as well as green hydrogen.
The learning and talent partnership is intended to spur research and development collaboration and intellectual property creation in clean energy solutions.
Solarvest Borneo director Leon Liew Chee Ing said the programme was timely in nurturing the talents needed for the industry to attain the vision envisioned by the Sarawak government to transform the state into a regional renewable energy powerhouse.
“Being born and raised in Sarawak, as a Sarawakian, I am grateful to be able to contribute to the local community with CENTEXS. Together with the partnership with Huawei Malaysia, we believe human capital development is a vital step in building a resilient and progressive society,” he said.
CENTEXS chief executive officer Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abdul Rahman said the company was cognisant of the importance of equipping our local talents with relevant hands-on trainings to enable seamless integration into the industry workforce.
“Green Energy Lab has developed three programme, namely Solar, Green Mobility & Storage and Green Hydrogen. Hence, we are pleased to offer our facilities as testbeds for these programme.
“This is a small step, but a meaningful one as we help Sarawak meet its aspiration for green power generation as outlined in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030,” he boted.
Huawei Malaysia vice president of digital power business unit Chong Chern Peng said it was committed to provide the
best green technology and in continuously skiling local talents in this area.
“We believe the development of local talents in Sarawak will help us capture and fulfill the ever-growing green industry market needs and demands.
The collaboration is a part of Solarvest’s five-year blueprint to transform into a regenerative clean energy expert.

In line with the Sarawak State development strategy, CENTEXS has identified its part to support the Digital Economy in talent development by establishing the Digital Training Unit in June 2017.
CENTEXS Digital Training Unit focus is on the development of technical manpower that will create sufficient digital skills and human resource required for the Sarawak Digital Economy. In March 2019, the Chief Minister of Sarawak, has announced the establishment of the Digital Academy.
The Digital Academy is envisioned to play a crucial role in producing digital talent pool to the industry. The Academy is an Industry relevant education program, focusing on reskilling and upskilling training, targeting school leavers, university graduates and industry employees.
